What does Crescent moon and crown mean?
Under German law, the fineness stamp on silverware must contain the Imperial crown, a crescent moon (for silver), the fineness in thousandths, and the firm's name or trademark; the crown sits to the right of the crescent. The crescent and crown therefore say 'German silver of declared fineness' - the number beside them gives the purity.
